Emotional Freedom Technique ... EFT

 

WHAT IS EFT?

EFT is shorthand for Emotional Freedom Technique and is Emotional Acupressure.

EFT is a very quick and simple method for freeing blocked emotions held in the body.
When emotions are held or ignored they can lead to emotional distress and eventually physical problems.

WHERE DOES EFT COME FROM?

EFT was developed in the late 1980s by Gary Craig (see www.emofree.com) and draws on the earlier work of an American Psychologist B Dr. Roger Callahan who developed Thought Field Therapy (TFT see www.tftrx.com).  Dr. Callahan developed TFT by combining the theory and practice of Western psychology with the principles of Eastern medicine (acupuncture).

HOW DOES EFT WORK?

The underlying idea of EFT is that all negative emotions and associated physical conditions can be attributed to a disruption in the bodys energy system. EFT aims to correct these disruptions by tapping (as opposed to needling) specific acupuncture points on the body while you think or talk about the problem or issue.  The tapping is gentle and subtly balances the energy channels that have become disrupted by specific events or thoughts.

It is the same as using a VCR remote control or tapping a key on a keyboard to send an electrical signal to the computer. Our thoughts are constantly creating patterns of electrical energy that cause the release of neurotransmitters, hormones and other chemicals in the body that we feel as emotions. When there is a disruption in the bodys electrical flow, such as the fight or flight response, we feel it. If the disruption continues, it can lead to emotional distress and eventually physical problems. When the disruption is removed, the distress stops.

EFT also draws from some aspects of applied Kinesiology and Neuro Linguistic Programming.   Thus, some sequences in EFT combine tapping with eye movements, humming and counting (to engage left and right hemispheres of the brain).

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF EFT?

EFT is a safe, gentle and natural technique using your own bodys energy system to help heal emotional distress.  It also positively influences body symptoms of distress, pain and suffering.  Furthermore,

EFT is safe for people of all ages and abilities.
EFT is relaxing.

EFT minimises and releases negative or stuck emotions.
EFT weakens underlying negative beliefs.

EFT has a generalising effect.  As specific issues are cleared, others often automatically disappear.  Your experience of life typically becomes lighter and more optimistic with the ongoing practice of EFT.

WHAT CONDITIONS RESPOND TO EFT?

The short answer here is that its worth trying EFT on everything.  Specifically  EFT has been successfully applied to conditions such as anxiety, fears, phobias, trauma, post traumatic stress disorder, mild to moderate depression, cravings, grief, anger, guilt and many physical ailments.  EFT also enhances performance and can help to improve relationships.

I find this works well for the majority of my clients and helps them gain self awarness of issues and then I use Hypnotherapy to motivate and facilitate the change desired .
